Kedah & Perak, Malaysia, 12 March 2014, –—- The state governments of Kedah and Perak, today received a fleet of the new Proton Perdana during a handover ceremony at the respective state government offices. Chief Minister of Kedah, Y.A.B. Dato’ Paduka Mukhriz Bin Tun Dr. Mahathir and Chief Minister of Perak, Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir were on hand to receive the new cars from representatives of DRB-HICOM Berhad and PROTON Holdings Berhad.

Prior to today’s handover, the new Perdana has also been presented to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, as well as several other government officials, including the Chief Secretary of Government and the Minister of Education II.

PROTON would like to reiterate it appreciates the faith shown by the Prime Minister and the Malaysian Government, and for giving the national car company the opportunity to be the provider of the official Government vehicles. The opportunity supports PROTON’s turnaround plan and future growth in realising its true potential to becoming a globally competitive automotive manufacturer.

Virtual racers in Thailand invited to compete for an opportunity to turn Pro NISMO Athlete.

BANGKOK, Thailand, 19 March 2014 —-– Nissan, in collaboration with Sony Thai Co., Ltd., today introduced Nissan GT Academy in Thailand to encourage virtual racers to win an opportunity to turn Pro NISMO Athlete. Through Nissan GT Academy, Nissan seeks to create opportunities for Thais to gain motorsport experience at an international level.

“Since its conception, Nissan GT Academy has been defying both common sense and motorsports tradition. The program takes gamers who excel at PlayStation®3 Gran Turismo®6 (GT6TM) and turns them into professional drivers in a matter of months,” said Hiroyuki Yoshimoto, president of Nissan Motor (Thailand) Co., Ltd. “With the launch of GT Academy in Thailand, Nissan encourages Thais to unlock their potential and achieve more by joining this exciting and innovative programme.”

In the first round of competition, Nissan GT Academy will recruit the top 28 Thai gamers from two channels: 14 from Nissan GT6TM Simulators and 14 from the PlayStation® Network. Individuals can enter the competition by getting behind the wheel of a Nissan GT6TM Simulator at a “Nissan GT Academy Live Event”, to be held for the first time at the Nissan booth at The 35th Bangkok International Motor Show 2014, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, from 26 March to 6 April  2014.

After the motor show, Nissan GT Academy will go on a road show to Khon Kaen, Surat Thani, Bangkok and Chiang Mai from 24 April to 15 June 2014. The top 14 contestants who clock the fastest lap times from these four cities will be eligible to compete in the National Final, the first gateway to GT Academy’s International Race Camp.

Alternatively, to earn their grid position via the PlayStation® Network (PSNSM) from the comfort of their own homes, virtual racers need to demonstrate their skill and determination to keep their names at the top of the GT Academy leader board, only possible by playing a special addition of Gran Turismo®6 on PlayStation®3 (PS3TM). The nation’s top 14 virtual racers will be identified through a series of online time trials. A special version of the game will be available for free download to GT6TM owners on a date to be announced soon.

The top 28 gamers will be invited to compete at a live, two-day National Final on 25-26 June 2014 at the Bira Circuit International Pattaya, where they will battle in the Nissan GT6TM Simulators, as well as completing driving skill challenges in the high-performance Nissan Pulsar DIG Turbo, a fitness challenge and a media test. The top six performers from these National Finals will then be invited to take part in the Final Selection Round – an intense Race Camp competition held at the famous Silverstone Circuit in the U.K.

At the International Race Camp, the six Thai finalists will compete against 24 international hopefuls. Their driving skills will be tested on the Formula One Silverstone motor racing circuit in NISMO-tuned Nissan 370Zs and GT-Rs. Only one finalist out of six from Thailand will be chosen to go head to head against their peers from other countries, competing to be the GT Academy International winner.

The GT Academy 2014 International winner will then get a chance to become a professional NISMO Athlete as they go through an intensive Driver Development Programme to prepare to compete for Nissan at the Dubai 24 hours in January 2015.

“Nissan is proud to launch GT Academy in Thailand, our first country for the programme in the ASEAN region,” said Darren Cox, Nissan Motor Corporation global motorsport director. “Now in its sixth year, the innovative GT Academy is getting a large international following since its successful execution in Europe, Russia, the USA, Middle East and South Africa.” 

“With the addition of GT Academy International – of which Thailand will be one of five markets – we have expanded the programme for 2014. This is a great endorsement of GT Academy’s increasing popularity worldwide. Nissan is an international company with global ambitions, and GT Academy reflects that.” 

Nissan GT Academy is also joined by Tor Sriachavanon Graves, a Thai professional racing driver, the second Thai driver in history to race at Le Mans 24 hours. He will play an important role as a mentor for the Thai contestants, as well as a judge at the International Race Camp.

“Nissan GT Academy is a great programme that offers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for racing advocates to fulfill their dreams, racing the virtual track to win a chance to become a professional race car driver. The dream was realised for the winners of GT Academy in previous years, so you can do it too,” said Graves.

Nissan and PlayStation held the first GT Academy in 2008, and since then the programme has been defying both common sense and motorsports tradition. The academy takes people who are good at video games and, in a matter of months, turns them into professional drivers. In December 2013, Nissan was honoured with the Autosport Award for Pioneering and Innovation for GT Academy.

Recently in January 2014, the four newest Nismo Athletes, the winners of Nissan GT Academy 2013, along with inaugural winner Lucas Ordoñez, stormed to the SP2 class victory at the Dubai 24 Hour. This is the first Dubai 24 Hour victory for GT Academy winners.

Dubai was the first international race for European winner Miguel Faisca, German winner Florian Strauss, US winner Nick McMillen and Russian winner Stanislav Aksenov. These stellar Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™) gamers have made the switch from the virtual world to reality, only moving from racing on PlayStation®3 to racing for real three months ago, so to bring the No.123 Nissan 370Z Nismo across the line first after 24 hour of racing was an incredible achievement.

“We’re finding drivers who didn’t even know where they wanted to be. We’re taking drivers from the virtual world to the real world and making them successful. The first year people thought we were lucky, and then we must have kept getting lucky!” explained Nissan’s Director of Global Motorsports Darren Cox of the thinking behind the programme.

In 2008, Spain’s Lucas Ordonez was a 23-year-old student who had never driven a real racecar. Then he won GT Academy Europe. Since then he has been on the podium at the famous Le Mans 24 hour race twice as well as enjoyed success in the Blancpain Endurance Series, Dubai 24 hours, European Le Mans series and FIA GT4.

In the summer of 2011, 19-year-old Welshman Jann Mardenborough won the third instalment of GT Academy Europe. Six months later he had an international racing license and by January, he was standing on the podium with his GT Academy teammates at the 24 Hours of Dubai.

Jann has since gone on to enjoy success at Le Mans and is now focused on a career in single seater racing, having recently announced he will be contesting GP3 this year with Arden International as well as working with Red Bull Infiniti Racing as part of their intensive driver development programme.

2014 will see the Nismo Athletes competing across the globe, against the toughest competition, in some of the world’s hardest races.

“GT Academy continues to prove again that Nissan is innovating on track, online and on the road,” commented Andy Palmer, Executive Vice-President of Nissan. “2013 has been an amazing year for the programme, but 2014 will see even more excitement as we expand even further globally and our drivers progress further up the real motorsport ladder.”

This year in Thailand, 28 of the best will join the National Final, just six will make it to Silverstone.

If you’re already playing Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™) on your PlayStation®3 keep doing that. If you don’t already have it, get it, and start playing. Then, keep playing. Follow this simple advice and you’ll be ready to go when the next GT Academy 2014 download is available. You could be the next gamer to go from virtual to reality.

As Nissan is launching GT Academy in Thailand, an online competition will be launched via the PlayStation®Network (PSNSM), and further details of this will be available in the coming days.

However, individuals with a valid driving license can choose to take part in the competition at GT Academy Live Events, experiencing the Nissan GT6 Simulators, to be held for the first time at Nissan Booth at The 35th Bangkok International Motor Show 2014 from 26 March to 6 April 2014 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. The GT Academy Live Events will also be held at various provinces in Thailand during the following periods:

24-27 April 2014: Central Plaza, Khon Kean

8-11 May 2014:  Central Plaza, Suratthani

5-8 June 2014:  Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok

12-15 June 2014:  Central Festival, Chiang Mai

Next, a total of 28 best gamers, top 14 from the online competition and top 14 from the GT Academy Live Events, will join the 2-day National Final, 25-26 June 2014 at the Bira Circuit International Pattaya.

The National Final brings together the fastest Online and Live Event Gamers and put them through a series of challenges, including fitness challenge and a media test. The objective is to select the final six contestants from Thailand for International Race Camp, Silverstone, United Kingdom.

At Race Camp, a tough series of challenges, driving and non-driving, will see competitors eliminated each day until just one from each country remains. These competitors will then go head to head to find one GT Academy International winner.

02     COMPETE

If all goes well – really well – you might just make it to Silverstone. If you’re lucky enough to do that, know this: GT Academy isn’t a gimmick or a stunt. It’s a real competition with real competitors on a real racetrack in a real car. It could be dangerous. The people who win this competition quit their jobs, quit school, move away, and become professional racecar drivers.

WHO CAN ENTER GT ACADEMY?

Who can enter GT Academy? Most people! There are very few limitations, only these:

The entrant must be over 18 years of age, and there is no upward age limit for entering GT Academy

Male or female! Female entrants are very welcome

The entrant must be a permanent resident of Thailand

The entrant has an international passport (or can obtain one) and they are able to obtain the appropriate visa to enter to country holding Race Camp (2014: United Kingdom)

The entrant must hold a valid driving license (not provisional) in Thailand

The entrant must not been convicted of any criminal offences

The entrant has not raced at a National level for over a year or held an equivalent Motorsport license issued by their local ASN (GT Academy Global reserve the right to decide what experience is deemed appropriate to enter GTA)

The entrant must not have a contract with another manufacturer, race team or conflicting sponsor that will limit their ability to accept the prize for winning GT Academy

The entrant must not have competed at the GT Academy Race Camp stage (or equivalent or similar stages) in any previous GT Academy competition.

AP Honda launches 2014 MotorSport Plan

BANGKOK, 18 March 2014 —-– AP Honda, the distributor of Honda motorcycles and the leader of Thailand’s motorsport, introduced its 2014 Motorsport Plan to build young blood into the international racing circuit, both in Moto2 and Motorcross races.

The list of rising stars is led by Thitipong Warokorn to compete in Moto2 at World GP for the first time with ‘Stop & Go’, a world class team from Spain, under the new team ‘AP Honda PTT The Pizza SAG’.

Jakrit Sawaengsawat and Weerawat Wongthanon will join the 600cc class at Asia Road Racing Championship. Three new rising stars; Somkiat Jantra, Nakarin Athiratpuwapat, and Muklada Sampuetare getting ready for the Asia Talent Cup, to secure their places in the Moto3 class at the World GP.

AP Honda is also supporting Anon Theplib and Jakrit Suksripaisan to accumulate the scores in Motocross Asia, to secure their places at MXGP.

“As a leader in Thailand’s motorcycle industry, AP Honda is determined to support young blood of Thailand to enter the international competition, both in Moto2 and Motocross races. Thai racers under Honda team have built reputation for the country. Ratthapark Wilairote was the first Thai racer to enter the international competition in Moto2 class at World GP. AP Honda is representing eight racers this years, six to enter Moto2 and two to enter Motocross. For the Moto2 class at World GP, Thitipong Warokorn will enter the Moto2 class throughout this season under ‘AP Honda PTT The Pizza SAG’. The team’s collaboration between AP Honda Co., Ltd., and Stop and Go team from Spain. Another two leading racers, Jakrit Sawaengsawat and Peerawat Wongthananon, will enter 600cc class at the Asia Road Racing Championship.

At the same time, AP Honda is ready to introduce three new rising stars to enter the Asia Talent Cup, to secure their places in Moto3 class at World GP. The rising stars are Somkiat Jantra, Nakarin Athiratpuwapat, and Muklada Sarnpuet.

For the Motocross competition, AP Honda is supporting Anon Theplib and Jakrit Suksripaisan at the national, regional, and international competitions. The two racers performed exceptionally at MXGP in Thailand in early March, especially Anon who won the MX1, the largest prize of the competition.

“In the past two years, our racers in different categories have performed very well and shown their progressive development. Although some of them are very young, their potential has outshone their tender age. They have the potential to develop and enter the international level if they practice and adjust their style to the competition. We need to offer them an opportunity to enter the international competition and learn to adjust their flaws. I believe Thai racers have the potential and future if they are provided a chance,” said Arak, with high confidence.

To assist, a free 25-Point Vehicle Safety Inspection is being offered at all Goodyear Autocare branches nationwide.

The Songkran Festival is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year for holiday travel, with Thai’s often driving long distances to see family and friends. CHANGCHUN, 4 April 2014 —- In the best first quarter of Audi’s history in China, 124,520 customers decided to buy a car with the Four Rings – an increase of 21.1 percent compared with the prior-year period. With the A3 Sportback, another locally produced model in the premium compact segment was launched in the Chinese market this March. Production of the A3 Sedan will start in the summer. Together with the Audi Q3*, which has been produced in China since November 2012, Audi offers the broadest range of cars in this segment from local production.

“We are the first premium manufacturer to locally produce and sell three models in the premium compact segment in China,” stated Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Sales and Marketing. “We have thus once again demonstrated Audi’s pioneering role in our second home market.”

47,636 Chinese customers decided in favour of an Audi in March (plus 36.6 percent). The locally produced Audi Q3 was the car of choice for 5,511 customers. The China-specific long-wheelbase versions of the Audi A6* and A4* were very successful with sales of 14,002 units (plus 15.4 percent) and 10,004 units (plus 16.9 percent). And the locally produced Audi Q5* reached an excellent figure of 8,831 deliveries (plus 14.3 percent). Audi also sold 9,288 imported models in March, an increase of 44.1 percent.

The models produced in Changchun, the Audi A4 L, A6 L, Q5 and Q3, reached the new record of 103,113 cars delivered in the first quarter, representing an increase of 21.0 percent compared with the prior-year period. With sales of 25,364 units, the Audi Q5 was the bestselling premium SUV in China (plus 8.6 percent). Unit sales of imported Audi automobiles rose by 21.7 percent to 21,407 vehicles.

Audi put its second plant in China into operation in Foshan in late 2013. The Audi A3 Sportback is now being produced there, to be followed by the A3 Sedan in the middle of this year. Audi is the only premium manufacturer to produce two SUVs locally, the Audi Q3 and the Q5. The company is thus extending its market leadership in two important growth areas, the SUV market and the compact-car class. Audi produces a total of five model series in China, more than any other premium manufacturer.

The dealer network was also significantly expanded throughout the country last year. A new dealership opened in China every week, so the number of sales outlets increased to more than 340 in over 150 cities. Audi will expand its exclusive sales and service network to more than 500 dealerships by 2017.

In this year’s “China Best Cars 2014” awards of the German car magazine “auto, motor und sport,” Audi received prizes as the most successful brand in a total of eight categories: The Audi A6 L was awarded first place in the categories “Upper Middle Class” and “Domestic Upper Middle Class.” The Audi Q5 was selected as the best “Domestic SUV & Offroader.” And in the brand assessment, Audi took five first prizes: “Reliable Cars,” “Environmentally Friendly Cars,” “Good Customer Service,” “Good Value for Money” and “High Resale Value.”

Audi is listed in first place also in the latest J.D. Power studies for Customer Satisfaction in Sales and Aftersales.

The arrival of Datsun on the Russian market makes the country unique for parent company Nissan Motor Corporation, as Russia is the first market in the region where all its three brands – Nissan, Infiniti and Datsun vehicles – will be sold, offering buyers a unique choice across virtually all vehicle segments.

The Datsun on-DO is the brand’s first offering in Russia. It is a four-door, five-seat roomy family sedan (L 4337 mm / W 1700 mm / H 1500 mm) with a class-leading trunk capacity of 530L.

The name reflects the car’s multicultural influences. “DO” is a word deeply embedded in the Japanese psyche, meaning “way,” and reflects a consistent and distinctive way of doing things. It can also mean “moving,” so the Datsun “on-DO” moniker’s overall meaning refers to the brand intention of providing mobility for all in an innovative way. “On,” meanwhile, is the Russian word for “he,” underlining the car’s strength, performance and masculinity. And both words also have clear meanings in English suggesting a positive dynamism.

Styling of the Datsun on-DO was completed in Japan at the company’s advanced Global Design Centre. The vehicle’s development and engineering was carried out in Russia by an international team of engineers at AVTOVAZ, backed by the full quality and technical assurance that comes with every product from the Nissan Motor Corporation. The mix of global and local inputs means the car’s modern and distinctive looks and performance are complemented by a base DNA perfectly suited to the Russia’s driving and climatic conditions.

Power will come from a proven, robust and pleasant to drive 1.6-litre, petrol engine, rated at 87 hp. The car will be attractively priced below 400 000 Roubles, detailed prices will be announced closer to the start of sales.

Datsun on-DO will be built in Russia at the AVTOVAZ plant in Togliatti.

Sales are due to start in the summer of 2014 and the car will initially be sold through a network of 25 fully branded dealerships supported by Nissan dealer investors. Located in key regions, they will be joined by further 75 outlets over the next two years.

RUSSELSHEIM — – The Opel model offensive is a huge success with European customers. In March 2014, the brand achieved 6.7 percent of the overall vehicle market in Europe, its highest market share since June 2011.

According to preliminary figures, new vehicle registrations climbed to around 133,700 units, an increase of over 9.3 percent compared to March last year. In the first three months of this year, Opel/Vauxhall new vehicle registrations jumped by more than 12,700 units to around 271,000 cars.

“Many European markets are finally growing again. It is a positive sign that Opel/Vauxhall is gaining market shares in this situation. The sustainability of our growth is also reflected in our current order books: already at the end of March, we had received around 20,000 more orders than in the first quarter of 2013,” says Board Member for Sales Peter Christian Küspert. “The current bestseller among the new models is the Mokka with around 215,000 orders. We are also delighted with the popularity of our lifestyle mini ADAM with 80,000 orders, and we have already received over 85,000 orders for our flagship the new Insignia.”

This success has a broad, multi-market base. In March and the entire first quarter, Opel/Vauxhall gained market share in ten European countries. Opel was especially successful in its home market in Germany. With 7.1 percent market share of the overall vehicle market in March, the brand grew by 0.3 percentage points compared to March last year. Over the first quarter, market share was 6.7 percent, 0.2 percentage points higher than the year-ago quarter. Both the Mokka and Meriva were number two in their segments in the first quarter of 2014. In the largest market in the UK, our sister brand Vauxhall grew sales by 17 percent in March compared to one year ago. Insignia and Zafira were number one in their segments, while Corsa and Mokka took the number two spot.

Interest in new Opel models is currently particularly high in Poland, where registrations jumped by 57 percent in March. Opel also reinforced its number one position in the passenger car market in Hungary last month, in the Netherlands the brand conquered the number one position for the first time since March 2012.

BANGKOK — – Mercedes-Benz Thailand underscored its leadership in premium car segment with orders soaring to 2,065 units at The 35th Bangkok International Motor Show 2014 (BIMS), an increase of 16% from last year’s event (2013: 1,776 units).

The company was ranked number one in premium segment with the highest orders in its history of BIMS participation. Mercedes-Benz Thailand remains confident to readily deliver the orders to its customers in due time.

President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited, Michael Grewe said: “The over-expected orders we received during BIMS this year was a big success. Our stand was always crowded with interested visitors throughout twelve days of the event with top three attractions being the new C-Class, the New Generation Compact Cars that comprise the A-, B-, CLA- and GLA-Class, and the E-Class, respectively.”

MOSCOW, Russia —-– Nissan Motor Corp CEO Carlos Ghosn joined Russian media at the debut event for the Datsun on-DO, saying sales of the brand’s models could hit 100,000 in the country within two years.

Russia is the third nation seeing the iconic brand’s return, and Ghosn told the Global Media Centre that Datsun’s high-growth market focus will aid in achieving the mid-term aims of the Nissan POWER 88 plan.

Global Media Centre: Russia is the third nation to welcome back the Datsun brand. What are your expectations for new models and market growth in the nation ahead?

CEO Carlos Ghosn: I’m very optimistic for the potential of Datsun in Russia because there is a big emerging population that we call the “Risers” that Datsun is going to address.

We’re going to have up to three products launched in Russia, and I would say within two years following the launch of Datsun – sales will start probably in August-September, we should hit 100,000 sales, which is going to help position Nissan as the largest Japanese company contributing to development of the Russian market, so I’m very optimistic about it.

Global Media Centre: Datsun production is done locally. How have Renault-Nissan Alliance relations been key to tapping that capacity, and why is Russia a “Win-Win” for all parties?

CEO Carlos Ghosn: AVTOVAZ is part of the Alliance, and we have a strategy with LADA as the main brand in Russia and helping it in its transformation, modernising its product offerings, being much more competitive, and then having Renault, Nissan, Datsun and Infinti playing their own role in their respective market targets.

So, AVTOVAZ is allowing us to move fast, because it’s opening for the Alliance capacities that exist and are not being used today.

The fact that we’re using common platforms, between some of the LADA offerings, some of the Renault offerings, some of the Datsun and Nissan offerings, is allowing us to not only go fast, but to limit investments, and to be very competitive because we’re using common parts, and the suppliers are happy about it.

The level of localisation is going to be very high, thanks to the collaboration with AVTOVAZ, as the automaker has a very large supplier network in Togliatti, and we’re working with them. We see a lot of advantage to this cooperation where we’re joining forces.

The Alliance is bringing technology, bringing platforms, a lot of best practices, and AVTOVAZ is bringing capacity and a good knowledge of the Russian market.

Global Media Centre: The “Riser” segment that Datsun is targeting globally has consumers in India already, with Russia and Indonesia joining the owner ranks soon. How big do you see the brand becoming globally?

CEO Carlos Ghosn: Datsun will support a lot of the Nissan POWER 88 programme up to 2016, and then afterwards will be a big part of the pillars of growth of Nissan. What’s important is having a brand addressing the Risers, particularly in the high-growth markets.

These markets are going to multiply. It used to be China, Brazil, India and Russia, but now we’re adding Indonesia, South Africa, we’re going to be adding African countries, a lot of South American countries, so this is going to continue.

I think this is the beginning of Datsun, the beginning to motorising all of this particular population on the planet, who are considered to be the Risers.

Audi and partner FAW cooperate on plug-in hybrid for China

CHANGCHUN —— Together with its Chinese joint-venture partner FAW, Audi is to launch a plug-in hybrid car for the Chinese market. The Audi A6 e-tron will be based on the long-wheelbase version of the Audi A6, which is already produced in China, and will be specially developed for the most important market of the German premium manufacturer.

“We are shaping the future of electric mobility in China,” stated Prof. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. The efficient full-size sedan with a 50-kilometre range when operating solely under battery power is to be produced within the joint venture by FAW-Volkswagen in Changchun in northern China.

Zhang Pijie, President of FAW-Volkswagen: “Audi and FAW have been cooperating closely for more than 25 years. Together, we have built up the premium segment in China. Now we are cooperating on the next generation of automobiles.” 

The two types of drive system of the plug-in hybrid technology offer customers emission-free driving with electric drive and unlimited range with the additional combustion engine.

The Audi A6 e-tron is equipped with the latest battery technology and represents another milestone in Audi’s efficiency programme in China. The Audi Group is pushing ahead with its activities in the area of electric mobility under the Audi e-tron heading. The focus is on a holistic approach. All systems and components are coordinated to work together optimally. This allows Audi to further reduce its cars’ CO2 emissions and creates a basis for CO2-neutral mobility.

The brand with the four rings is the first manufacturer to equip all of its models produced locally in China with efficient start-stop technology and kinetic energy recovery systems. Audi was already a pioneer in 2012 with the integration of lightweight components in local production. Since the beginning of the efficiency programme with FAW-Volkswagen in 2011, Audi has reduced the average fuel consumption of the models it produces in China by more than 20 percent.

“We are the market leader in China’s premium segment and will continue systematically with the application of efficiency technologies. Audi is thus supporting the Chinese government’s targets for the reduction of fuel consumption,” stated Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter, President of Audi China and Head of the China Region at AUDI AG.

Starting this year, the company produces engines complying with the efficient Euro 6 standards in Changchun. Audi already offers its Chinese customers a wide range of imported hybrid models (the Audi Q5 hybrid quattro*, Audi A6 hybrid* and Audi A8 L hybrid*). The Audi A3 e-tron* plug-in hybrid will also come to China.

Strict efficiency criteria apply to the construction and operation of Audi’s new factory with FAW-Volkswagen in Foshan, southern China. This is where the Audi A3 Sportback* is produced, which had its market launch on 21 March 2014.

The Audi A3 Sedan* from Foshan will follow before the end of this year. In 2013, the brand with the four rings delivered 491,989 cars in China (including Hong Kong), an increase of 21 percent compared with 2012.

Porsche to replace engines of current 911 GT3 models

STUTTGART —— Sports car manufacturer Porsche will be replacing the engines of all 911 GT3* vehicles of model year 2014. This is the corrective action derived from intensive internal analyses that were initiated in response to two engine fires.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that engine damage resulted from a loosened screw joint on the connecting rod. The loose connecting rod damaged the crankcase, which in both cases led to leakage of oil which then ignited.

After becoming aware of the two cases, Porsche promptly took action to avoid any risk to customers by advising them to cease using the affected 785 vehicles until further notice and have them picked up by a Porsche Centre. Now, engines with optimised screw fittings will be used in all Porsche 911 GT3 vehicles of model year 2014 – including in those that have not been delivered yet. The relevant Porsche Centres are in direct communication with customers worldwide to discuss the further course of action.

Porsche points out that no other 911 models or other model series are affected by this action.
